Corner Haven Crisis Center

Located in downtown Hazard, Corner Haven Crisis Center provides crisis assistance to people in need. Corner Haven is open 24 hours/day, seven days/week.

Emergency & Transitional Shelter
Corner Haven has 5 cots for emergency shelter and 16 beds for transitional shelter for men and women. These beds provide a temporary place for people to stay while they are working on plans for the future. Residents eat three meals a day and participate in the life of the shelter by planning meals, cooking meals, cleaning the center and doing other activities that can help them to develop life skills necessary for living independently. Residents are linked to our Case Manager who can help them set and reach their goals such as education, employment and permanent housing. Residents who are engaged in case management can stay up to 24 months.

Case Management
Case Manager Jenny Lewis works primarily with persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness through the Supportive Housing Program and KY HEARTH program, both funded by HUD and passed through Kentucky Housing Corporation.

Homelessness Prevention
Corner Haven offers a variety of crisis assistance services to help families and individuals who are in need. Much of what we have to offer comes from the kind donations of our community, including furniture, household goods and money, while other resources are provided through HUD's Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. Resources include:

  • Financial aid for pending utility disconnects and evictions
  • Mediation assistance with utility companies
  • Clothing
  • Household goods
  • Food boxes
  • Furniture
  • Short-term rental assistance
  • Motel vouchers

Health Care for the Homeless
A primary health care clinic is offered at Corner Haven two Wednesday mornings each month through the Health Care for the Homeless Program. Residents can get a check-up, care for a chronic disease or help with an acute illness. The clinic staff also helps residents to obtain their medications and link them to necessary follow-up. For more information on the Health Care for the Homeless and other health care services for people who are uninsured, visit Kentucky Mountain Health Alliance or call (606) 487-9505.

Soup Kitchen
Corner Haven offers three meals each day to both our residents and people in the community who are hungry. Meals are served at approximately 8:00 a.m., noon and 5:30 p.m.
