Family Support Center

The Family Support Center offers healthy new options and opportunities to families and individuals in need. Staff use a strengths based model for working with families and individuals. We help our clients to identify their strengths and use those to help them meet their needs. Staff help families and individuals to identify goals and ways to reach them. Then, they link them with the necessary resources, provide support and encouragement, and help them think strategically about decisions. Staff may help folks to prepare a resume, get to the doctor, search for a job or apply for financial aid for college studies. Staff will link folks to such resources as education, employment services, child care, counseling, mental and primary health care, and transportation.

Case Management
Our Case Management Program features case managers who work primarily with persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness through the Supportive Housing Program and families who are at risk of abuse and neglect through the Community Collaboration for Children Program.

Case Managers (pictured on left) are also the first stop for people are in need of housing. The Case Managers will go through a housing assessment with the family or individual. This assessment helps the Case Manager better understand the housing needs of the family or individual, so that he or she can link the family or individual with the appropriate housing resources.

Supportive Housing Program
Our Supportive Housing Program is designed to help families and individuals who are homeless access the resources and gain the skills necessary to obtain and maintain permanent housing. Case Managers link families and individuals to housing opportunities, help them prepare for employment, get them enrolled in education and assist them with other activities that will lead towards housing.

Community Collaboration for Children
Our Community Collaboration for Children Program is designed to help families who are at risk of abusing and/or neglecting their children to obtain the resources and skills necessary to provide a loving, healthy and nurturing environment in which their children can thrive. Case Managers link families to parenting classes, help them obtain housing, support them in court and assist them with other activities that will lead towards a healthy home environment.

Family Team Meeting Facilitators bring together community resources and informal supports around a family to develop strengths based plans to help the family meet their needs and create a healthy home environment. This program is offered in partnership with Kentucky River Community Care.

Giving Advantages to People (GAP) Program
Our GAP Program features Family Transition Advisors (pictured on right) who work with families who are on K-TAP and are facing barriers to getting off of K-TAP. The Family Transition Advisors are folks from the community who are former welfare recipients and good resource people. GAP is designed to help recipients of K-TAP access education, employment and other services that will improve their lives. Community Ministries works in partnership with the Kentucky Department of Community Based Services to provide this program to the community.
